a hashtag created for only autistic people to use. It originated on Tumblr in 2011 and was meant to help autistic people build a community of their own, share accurate information on how to provide support to autistic people, and to fight misinformation on harmful therapies and common misconceptions/misrepresentations from allistic/non-autistic people.

A spoonie is someone living with a chronic physical/mental illness, in reference to the Spoon theory- you start the day with a certain number of spoons, and each activity costs a certain amount of spoons. you must plan your day around not running out. Socializing, using the stairs, lifting things, getting dressed etc. can all cost spoons. Skylar: It's a low spoons day today, I don't think I'll go out.
Fallon: You're a spoonie? I didn't know. Well, I hope you feel better tomorrow. Can I do anything for you?
